Find in History images to represent the image evolution:

As a way to show the evolution of images and art, I have selected different paintings of different eras from the ancient egipt to modernt art.
The next segments briefly explain the basic point of each one in oldest to newest order:



The god Anubis accompanying the soul of the deceased and weighing his heart.
Next to him Ammyt waits for devour the heart while Tot records the result.

Function(s):               Religious, decorative and educational.
In the ancient egypt was usual to paint walls with gods' representatives as a way to decorate, in that case the paint was made on 'Book Of The Death' and shows people that only if they were good in life can keep their hearts in death.




In this painting also appear Saint Sixtus,
Saint Barbara and two cherubims.

Age: 1512
Period: Renaissance
Function(s): Religious and decorative. It's believed that it was made to decorate the Papa's (Julio II) tomb.









He made this work during his second stay in Rome,
possibly due to a commission.


Title: Boy Lighting a Candle
Author: El Greco
Age: 1570
Period: Mannerism
Function(s): Possibly reproduction. Some studies assert that this painting was a possible try by El Greco to reproduce an older paintig now lost.













It was painted on cloth, despite everything
it shows great naturalness in color.
  

Title: Apollo and Marsyas.
Author: José de Rivera.
Age: 1637
Period: Baroque
Function(s): Mythological. It represents the scene after the victory of Apollo over the satyr Marsyas in a music duel.









The Japanese print was an expensive method
based on wood engraving.
They were mostly landscapes and made in
only one piece, despite of everything this one
is a mytologic triptych.

Age: Between 1843 and 1847
Period: Ukiyo-e
Function(s): Historical-mythical. It is based on the story in which the princess invokes a spectrum that fights for her.





It shows the scene where the cursed lady
 decides to cross the river to go to Camelot
where Lancelot, the man she is in love with, lives.

Age: 1888
Period: Pre-raphaelism
Function(s): Decorative and symbolic in the way that the painted was made based on a poem.





Medee was known as a danguerous
witch who commited a lot of heinous acts.

Period: Art-Noveau (Modern)
Function(s): Mythological and decorative. It was made as a poster ad for a play.
